Kia ora koutou and welcome to the Northern Cancer Network

We are one of four Regional Cancer Networks in New Zealand established to implement the NZ Cancer Control Strategy Action Plan 2005-2010. In October 2008 the Network established a Maori Leadership Group to provide tikanga and kaupapa Maori guidance and strategic advice and to develop and promotes Maori aspiration within all Network activities.

Northern Cancer Network partners come from across the Northern region and work at different stages of the cancer continuum: Northern Region DHBs, Non-Governmental Organisations, GPs and Primary Health Organisations, cancer service providers, cancer consumers and their family or whanau, hospices, and research organisations.

News from the Network

Northern Cancer Network primary care and secondary care national stock-take of services for people with suspected lung cancer

This national stocktake of innovative services is a key component of the current HRC_DHBNZ funded lung cancer research project, distributed to all District Health Boards and Primary Healthcare Organisations at the beginning of May. The aim of stocktake is to identify services and initiatives that could facilitate earlier diagnosis and improve care for people with possible lung cancer and their family or whanau. "The Sooner the better" - This campaign, has been developed in response to this evidence and aims to increase awareness of lung cancer symptoms among Maori and Pacific population aged 45 – 64 years in the Northern DHB Region particularly in the Northland and Counties Manukau districts. Committed to improving the journey for cancer patients, their carers and whanau the Network provides a mechanism for the Northern region to enable everyone involved in cancer to work collaboratively to improve patient outcomes. Click here for further details on the campaign.
