 Research

An evidence based approach underpins all Northern Cancer Network activity. While the Network will not necessarily lead many research projects it will identify areas for investigation and refer these to research partners.

The Auckland Cancer Research Network is a key partner of the Network, fostering collaborative cancer research between various research groups and individuals. Click here for further information.

Lung Cancer Research Project

The Network is currently leading one research project: Identification of barriers to the early diagnosis and management of people with lung cancer in primary care and description of best practice solutions. Led by Dr Wendy Stevens, the Network is conducting a 3 year research project to assess the barriers (within primary care and at the primary-secondary interface) to the early diagnosis of lung cancer, and to develop recommendations for service change. The project is being conducted within the Auckland and Lakes regions.

The research phase of this lung cancer project was recently completed, and the assessment phase has commenced.  Over the next 12 months, reports on the research will be finalised, recommendations developed and an economic evaluation performed.  All findings and recommendations will be available on completion of the project in June 2012.
